Internationalisation Process of Medical Tourism Industry in Malaysia, A Sequential Approach

Abstract


In response to the recent problem of limited growth in the medical tourism industry, this study aims at examining the sequential stage of internationalisation process in services sector. Content analysis was conducted on literature pertaining to internationalisation and its process approach that ranges between 1959 and 2017. Grounded by the Theory of Internationalisation Process, a model that depicts the sequential stage of internationalisation process in the medical tourism industry is illustrated. It consists of three stages and is discussed in detail. This study is expected to contribute to the development of the 12th National Key Economic Area (NKEA) as medical tourism is one of the Entry Point Projects (EPP). This paper is the first of its kind to integrate sequential stage of internationalisation process and medical tourism industry.
